Student pilot on his first solo flight at Livingston, MT Airport (KLVM)
Flight Instruction - $65/hr

This is the instructors fee for training in an aircraft, with the engine running. It's charged in tenths of an hour, so 1 hour and 18 minutes of instruction is charged as 1.3 hours (time is measured off the Hobbs Meter). In this example, $84.50.

Hobbs Meter
Ground Instruction - $45/hr
Hobbs Meter

Ground instruction is that time spent with your instructor discussing the academic elements of flying to include pre & post flight briefings, aerodynamics, maneuver completion standards, weather interpretation, flight planning, aircraft systems, aeronautical decision making, and more.

Travel - $0.625/mile

For services outside of Livingston (KLVM) or Wilsall (9U1), round trip mileage will be billed at the IRS mileage rate of $0.625/mile measured from Mission Field Airport (KLVM) in Livingston, MT. When possible, mileage costs are split between customers. E.g. two customers in Bozeman, each incur 50% of the round trip cost instead of paying the full cost of round trip travel.

If air travel is required, a business/premium class ticket will be purchased through a US Flag Carrier Airline with consideration given to the customers desires in order to keep costs to acceptable levels. If a different aircraft is used to conduct travel, costs will be reimbursed by the customer and the rate will be negotiated prior to signing a contract for services.

Aircraft Rental Options in Southwest Montana

For students or renters seeking a traditional flight training experience at a small local airport there are a number of suitable options. Factors to consider expand beyond price to include proximity to your home, the type of weather common to particular airports, and the type of outcome you seek. It's also important to develop a good relationship with the person or organization renting the aircraft you so that you can have a better understanding of the type and quality of maintenance being performed an aircraft that you're renting and to make sure that the availability and ease of scheduling the flying machine, suits your needs.

"Dry" describes a price per hour, generally measured in tenths but possibly other methods. Dry rates do not include fuel, oil, or other fluids consumed by the aircraft. It's typically measured in 'Tach Time' and is more often reserved for bigger aircraft with a wider range of potential operating costs. Dry rates are frequently used in leasing or commercial arrangements.
