Austin Timm, Owner
ATP, CFI/II, AGI/IGI
Austin is a Captain for a cargo carrier in remote western Alaska. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with both Multi-Engine, and Single-Engine Land ratings, plus a Casa 212 type rating. His goal has always been to grow organically, and not rush off to the airlines, the path to this point has been more interesting than his wildest dreams ever imagined.
Previously, he's been fortunate to have flown over 20 distinct ICAO aircraft types, including multiple tailwheel types, and has held various pilot in command roles with Part 135 certificate management experience. Some of his more interesting work has been as a ferry pilot, which has taken him to little seen parts of North America, and as a wildlife survey pilot for the State of Montana; he also earned a low-level and tandem tailwheel reconnaissance certification (card) from USDOI/USFS OAS (Office of Aviation Services). This unique qualification allows continuous flight below 500 feet above ground level for the purposes of tracking wildlife movements typically with a biologist onboard.
Austin believes that some of his most rewarding flying has been with the Alaska Wing of Civil Air Patrol where he has volunteered as both a glider tow pilot for the cadet glider program, and as a search and rescue pilot for missing aircraft in the 49th state.

In spite of having a 'real 'job', he continues to enjoy sharing the experience of flight with other pilots as time permits. He focuses on instructing students to fly airplanes as the utility machines they are, without losing sight of their inherent novelty and the joy that aviation brings.

As an 'all in' member of the aviation community he relies deeply on the formative experiences of his childhood (having grown up in a legacy airline family on the east coast) and enjoys reading classic and contemporary literary works about the aviation industry.

As a 20 year Montana resident, Austin has developed a deep understanding of the local mountains and valleys not just from the standpoint of an aviator but also as a former ice climber and backcountry skier who continues to take much more mellow hikes and backpacking trips into the mountains with his family. He respects the mountains for many reasons and looks forward to sharing some of those lessons with you.

If there's an opportunity to share this excitement with you, whether it's in a flying machine, in the FBO on a weather day, over coffee early in the morning, or a cold one at the end of a long day, then all the better. He looks forward to sharing his love of aviation long into the future.

Trent McAllister, Flight Instructor
Commercial Pilot, CFI/II
Trent is an easy going midwest transplant with a zest for Montana. As a pilot who's got hundreds of hours flying out of the Livingston airport, he's become accustomed to flying and instructing in some of the most challenging continental weather microclimates in the Lower 48.

Good judgement and decision making skills are critical to your flight training success and Trent can help you achieve those skills through careful and controlled exposure to the realities of aviation.

In addition to his Livingston specific experience, Trent has functioned as a Flight Instructor and Maintenance Officer for a local flying club. His time specifically as an instructor includes experience in a range of Cessna, Piper, and Aeronca models, and he has PIC (Pilot in Command) experience in aircraft beyond that to include ferry pilot work in tailwheel airplanes across the continental United States.

As a contract instructor, Trents scheduling is for the most part self directed, although he works with the remainder of the Fly With Virga Team to sort through aircraft scheduling, maintenance, and hangar logistics to best suit your needs.

Other Options
One of the great things about Fly With Virga is the network. In the event that scheduling or other challenges come up that Austin can't meet, he's happy to recommend other competent pilots to help address your needs.
